January 20, 2006 ... Arrived in Las Vegas ... got Great gas mileage!!.
Could Vegas be that 'Big and Spacious Building'!!
The trip down to Vegas was fantastic! It was so nice to get back to great gas mileage ... 18+ mpg!! Now that's more like it!
I had calculated 12 mpg while pulling the trailer ... way off!! There was about 50 miles of snow and rain around Beaver,UT ... by
this time I was VERY familiar with 4WD ... so it was a piece of cake!! We got in around 11PM and called our formally
favorite place, La Quinta, where have had good rates and discounts previously. Tonite it was $99-/night plus tax! I
decided it was time to get gas and reconsider our options. As I was pumping gas I saw this huge sign for Motel 6, which
was across the corner from where we were. Well what's there to loose ... we went there and lo and behold they had no
smoking rooms available AND they gave senior citizen discounts ... so the total with everything was $50 and change!! The
room was on the first floor so we could reorganize our STUFF! This is the best Motel 6 EVER!
Vegas has changed a lot since we were there 2 1/2 years ago when we were moving from AZ to UT. Then we had a 24' truck
pulling a 6'x12' trailer ( how do you think we filled up the 30'x10' SU!?) and a Thunderbird totally filled except for the
driver's seat. You know us ... we know how to travel with a MAX Load ... why travel Light when you can get exercise AND
have lots of STUFF when you get there ... MAX Load is the only way to go for us!! Since, it was so late and we had a ton of
unloading to do ... there were no pictures of our arrival into Vegas nor of our trip down. As it turned out we didn't leave
Provo till about 5PM and then we had to had to visit Becky in Spanish Fork, UT ... so it was nearly 7PM by the time we really
got on the road ... that's why we got into Vegas that late, it was a hour later due to the time change, BUT we were in time to
take advantage of the non-weekend rate at Motel 6! Anyway, this will give you an idea how much snow
we had on the road. The Pathfinder was not that dirty when we left Provo.
We decided to drive around ... KatieRose took videos while I took pictures of some of my most favorite places.
Here are some more views of the strip ... even Trump is making his appearance and getting into the market.
When KatieRose was taking pictures up and down the strip, she had taken her clipon sunglasses off. After all of the picture taking
was done, we were finally headed out of town. As I was getting the 'road warrior' speed up and putting on our clip-ons ... I found
mine but KatieRose looked all over and couldn't find hers. I had no idea where or what could have happened to hers ... probably fallen
someplace in the car. So I figured either we'd find it at our next stop or we'd have to buy another pair. Then KatieRose remembered
that when she got out of the Pathfinder to take pictures of the Luxor, the clipons were on her lap and they must have fallen on the
pavement at the bus stop. Just then that 'still small voice' said that if I turn around and go back to the bus stop across from
the Luxor, we would find the clipons! At the next exit I got off and proceeded to go back. After driving about 5 minutes my rational
mind said that the probability was extremely small that we would find them. Buses would drive over it or passengers would step
on it. Anyway, I was headed that way and was going to follow it through. Now we had driven around for at least for a half hour after
our last stop at the Luxor. I wish we had taken a picture of the event ... surprise and amazment filled us AND 'Lo and Behold!!' the
clipons were on the pavement, exactly where they had fallen. Now that was a very Major miracle!!
