You know how it is ... Looking for work and a place to live ...
Integrating into the culture ... hard to believe that I'm already a month behind ...
I do have plenty day-by-day pictures ... have to make time to talk story!
Monday 1/23
First thing today was to get the Pathfinder shipped! We consulted with 'Streets & Trips' and found a less travel route using SR4. It was less traveled and we got there easily. on the way back we found a better way to connect with I80 and made it even quicker. There was a fair amount of anticipation as to whether our car would be there. Before I saw the car I felt that with all of the miracles we've had I was sure it was going to be there. As the car came into view, we both breathed a sigh of relief. What I wasn't prepare for was when KatieRose asked, "How come the driver's side window was open?"! I looked and lo and behold it was ... could I have left it open? I couldn't remember ... I have never done that and it was hard for me to believe that I was so distracted with repairing the rear-view mirror, which popped out of its holder when I pulled on it to remove the Cuban flag that was hanging from it. As it turns out Al, the guard, did have a screw driver and all was put back together. In any event, then there were two miracles; 1) the car was there & 2) even with the driver's side window open!! Now that's what I call protection. We had bought some high tech sprayon cleaner with rags, we remember around Thanksgiving, that allows you to clean & polish your car windows and all without water! There was a requirement that the car should be clean before shipment. so we had held this product back, actually it was the very first time we had used it, just for this purpose. It worked very well ... spray & wipe ... and presto the car had a shine all in less than 20 minutes. We then took the car over to the guard gate and there we were greated by Al! The first thing he said, "How come you left the window down?" "I said the car would be safe, but was that an extra test?" Gee! did I feel embarrassed. I guess in the concern about the rear-view mirror I did forget to roll up the window ... hard to believe ... but when you consider that I drove over the bridge in the bus lane ... well anything is possible!-) We proceeded to the office, I had contacted the call center in Phoenix,AZ earlier and had been given the confirmation #, so all I had to do was pay. They didn't inspect the car or anything that they said or KatieRose went through the last time she shipped her car. This time I made sure all of the windows were up and the car door was open, since the keys were in it!
We then went back to the HI to pack the rest of the STUFF we couldn't take on the plane. They were going to charge us $80 for each extra bag/box. Parcel Post, even Priority Mail, is cheaper! We did this and took the STUFF to the PO. We found Trader Joe's and were we ever so happy, since we hadn't seen one since we lived in AZ 2 1/2 years ago. We bought sushi and breakfast food for our remaining meals. We had spent a goodly amount at the Warf, so I was attempting to be frugal. The sushi was great! We went back and bought another one for our dinner! I should have updated the LTB that night but to tell you the truth, I was zonked and couldn't get into the mood. Maybe because I was wondering how, even after sending 4 more boxes we were going to get on the plane with what we had. So we packed another box and took it to the PO and used the self service counter, it was about 9:30PM. That was it till the next adventure tomorrow. What a journey and travel trip we've had since 1/9/06! Tomorrow we finally get on the plane and fly to Hawaii!
